Why Fantasy in Lights 2025 Is Special

  1. A Longstanding Tradition
What began in 1989 with just 11 displays has grown into over 50 illuminated scenes lighting up Olin Park.

  2. Powered by Local Experts
The event is a collaboration between IBEW Local 159 electricians and NECA contractors. This partnership allows the show to stay free for all.

  3. Sustainable & Energy-Efficient
Fantasy in Lights has embraced green practices. As far back as 2009, the event reduced energy usage by 82% through transitioning to LED displays.

  4. Community-Driven
The show runs because of volunteers, local sponsors, and community donations. Want to help? Volunteering or sponsoring a display are great ways to get involved.

  5. Sweet Holiday Traditions
A fun highlight: Fantasy in Lights is partnered with Babcock Dairy to produce a special sugar-cookie holiday flavor. You can find it at the Babcock Dairy Store on UW–Madison campus during the season.

  • Go early in the evening: Arrive close to dusk to catch the full effect of the lights and avoid later crowds.

  • Dress warmly: Wisconsin nights in November/December can be chilly. Layers, gloves, and warm shoes will go a long way.

  • Be patient with parking & traffic: Popular nights will draw many visitors; leaving a little extra buffer time helps.

  • Take a walk through the displays: Bring your camera or phone — the displays are made to be admired up close.

  • Support the cause: Donations at the exit help sustain and improve the event year after year.
