April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month, a time dedicated to raising awareness and promoting actions to prevent child abuse and neglect. Communities nationwide are encouraged to collaborate in creating safe environments where children can thrive. It’s a reminder that every child deserves a safe, stable, and nurturing environment—and that prevention starts with awareness, education, and support. Throughout the month, individuals, families, and organizations are encouraged to recognize the signs of abuse, uplift resources for those in need, and take action to strengthen the families and systems that help children feel secure. By working together, we can create a future where every child feels safe, valued, and protected.
A notable organization contributing to this mission is Bikers Against Child Abuse® (B.A.C.A.). Established in 1995 in Provo, Utah, B.A.C.A. is a worldwide nonprofit comprised of motorcyclists committed to creating safer environments for abused children. Their mission is to empower children not to feel afraid of the world in which they live by providing support and working in conjunction with local and state officials.
B.A.C.A. offers various interventions, including: bacaworld.org
-
Level 1 Intervention: Upon accepting a case, two bikers—typically one male and one female—act as primary contacts for the child and their family, providing a supportive and positive presence.
-
Level 2 Intervention: If necessary, members establish a temporary presence at the child’s home to deter further abuse or harassment.
Throughout April, B.A.C.A. chapters participate in events like awareness rides and community gatherings to highlight the importance of child abuse prevention. To learn more about B.A.C.A.’s mission, find a local chapter, or discover how you can support their efforts, visit their official website:
